This workshop is perfect for you if you want to try Pilates but don’t know where to begin!
Over the 2 hours, Jasmine will take you through the core principals of a Pilates class. You will learn some of the most common exercises and how to safely and effectively perform them so you know what you’re doing when you come along to our classes.
You will leave the workshop feeling confident enough to join one of our Pilates classes.
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a balanced and holistic form of exercise that helps builds strength without the muscle bulk, flexibility and a sense of relaxation within the body. Pilates helps to re-connect the mind and body by recruiting core muscles to stabilise the torso, to help strengthen postural muscles to restore alignment in the body and correct muscle imbalance to prevent injury.
In Pilates your centre is your powerhouse, each exercise is controlled by the contraction of the abdominal and lower back muscles. The challenge is maintaining stabilisation of the core muscles whilst moving the limbs through all planes of movement. Each exercise is based on the 8 principles of Relaxation, Co-ordination, stamina, alignment, breathing, concentration. Centering and Flowing Movements.
Pilates welcomes all different types of bodies, those who want to keep fit, those recovering from an injury or those suffering from back or neck issues. The Pilates technique takes time to learn and it cannot be taught in an hour, keep practicing and be patient.
