The repetitive movement from running, cycling and other sports work at shortening certain muscle groups, making them tighter, less stable and ultimately leaving you open to injury.

Yoga can massively help to improve overall posture in your chosen sport, safely lengthen and release tension in overworked muscles as well as help you tune into mindful breathing exercises.

By adding a weekly yoga class into your fitness regime you can expect…

  • Increased flexibility, mobility & coordination
  • Better posture
  • More stamina and endurance
  • Reduced risk of injury
  • Stronger, leaner muscles
  • Increased lung capacity & better breath
  • Cope with mental challenges of pushing your body to the limits
  • Speedier recovery between sessions

Meet Zoe

Zoe has been teaching yoga full time for 10 years and is the owner of Blooming Bamboo. Over the years she has worked with people with all levels of physical ability and loves watching people transform through the power of yoga. This course is designed out of her experience of working with people who love physical exercise… “so often people come to me with restricted movement in their legs & upper body because of the repetitive nature of their regular exercise activity. It takes time to unravel years of tightening, and postural habits… but it is possible. It’s my passion to ensure that people are equipped with enough knowledge and confidence to continue with regular yoga practice after this course has finished”

“I include yoga in my weekly fitness routine to compliment running and bootcamp workouts. Being a runner and lover all functional exercises like squats and lunges, I am rarely without tight and aching muscles. Yoga helps to relieve the tightness of my hamstrings in particular and loosens the hip flexors. Stretching type poses help to increase flexibility, allowing for a bigger range of motion with stride length.

As well as stretching, yoga offers a range of poses which improve strength and balance for the whole body including the core. Core strength is essential for runners to hold a good posture. The increased strength in the quads and glutes help me to run faster and feel more powerful in explosive exercises in a HIIT session and also helps to prevent injury.

Overall, yoga has so many benefits for runners and people who take part in hard exercise. I wouldn’t be without it in my routine and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to enhance their overall mental and physical fitness.”

Sally, Tempest Fit Running Club

“I can highly recommend Zoe and Blooming Bamboo. I was made to feel welcome and comfortable from the outset. The guidance and encouragement is excellent, and after only two weeks of attending yoga at Blooming Bamboo I achieved a running PB in a ten mile race by 5 minutes! This was an unexpected but much welcomed benefit of my yoga classes!

I realised soon after starting yoga that I felt stronger during my runs with my stamina also improving. My posture both felt and looked better, leading to improved running efficiency. My ability to complete balance poses has also been improving and the stretching has helped eliminate some muscle tightness I was suffering from.

In addition, following my morning sessions my energy levels seem to be improving. The quality and variety of sessions have also helped lower my stress, and reduce tension and anxiety issues by allowing me to relax and control my breathing. The main thing though is that the sessions just make me feel good, and have given me an inner strength and belief that I can push myself and achieve what might at first seem impossible.”
