Extended Yoga Practice with David Atkinson

We are beyond excited to welcome David Atkinson to Blooming Bamboo to lead you through an extended yoga practice.

What to expect

An extended practice gives the chance to let go of time constraints, go deeper and really absorb yourself into the practice in which a usual class doesn’t give enough time for. Suitable to those with experience the session will cover a broader range of Hatha Yoga techniques including a vinyasa Asana session, Kriya’s for digestion, Pranayama to increase/balance energy and Meditation to bring the mind to a place of stillness. A fuller range of practices work on all levels of the body from the gross to the subtle and the combination of these has a powerful affect on overall wellbeing.

About David

David first became interested in Yoga nearly 20 years ago when he was introduced to Transcendental meditation by local teacher Chris Greathead and shortly after started practicing Iyengar Yoga for a few months before connecting with a Buddhist Yogi Sudaka who was teaching Ashtanga vinyasa Yoga. David did his first teacher training in 2004 with Brian Cooper and taught Ashtanga in Newcastle for nearly 10 years and has taken additional workshop training with many teachers including Srivatsa Ramaswami, Matthew Sweeney, Danny Paradise, David Williams, Nancy Gilgoff, Donna Farhi, Paul Grilley, Christopher Gladwell & Godfrey Devereux to help gain insight into the various approaches to Yoga so that this can then be related to students in a supportive way that suits the needs of the individual.
In 2011 David traveled for a year around India and Asia and studying at the Krishnamacharya Healing Foundation, completed an additional teacher training at the Patanjali International Yoga Foundation in Rishikesh studying traditional Hatha Yoga practices under the guidance of Dr Jitendara Das and is also a practitioner of Traditional Thai massage. David teaches in Newcastle and runs workshops and hosting visiting teachers.

Praise for David

Blooming Bamboo Founder Zoe James “I first came across David last year at a fundraising event in Gateshead where he lead a huge crowd through a quarter of 108 sun salutations. I connected with his style immediately, it being resonant of many of my teachers in London. And now on the rare occasion I have a day off from teaching at Blooming Bamboo, I love to attend yoga classes in the region and without doubt David’s classes in Newcastle are probably my favourite. I urge anyone who has attended my classes regularly to try David’s extended practice. You definitely won’t be disappointed.”
